14%

Multiple myeloma is a rare hematologic cancer that affects plasma cells. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 30,770 individuals in the United States will be diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2018, and approximately 12,770 patients will die from the disease.1 How much do you know about multiple myeloma?

Although multiple myeloma is a rare cancer, it is the third most frequently diagnosed hematologic cancer (after lymphoma and leukemia) in the United States.2 The majority of patients being diagnosed with this disease are men, aged ≥65 years, and it is twice as common in African Americans than in white Americans.3 Public awareness of effective strategies for diagnosing and treating multiple myeloma needs to remain a priority to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with the disease.
