It is estimated that almost 79,000 new cases of bladder cancer will be diagnosed in the United States in 2017 and approximately 16,870 deaths will be attributed to the disease. There are several types of treatments for bladder cancer, depending on disease stage and other factors. These include surgery, intravesical therapy, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. Public awareness of bladder cancer needs to remain a priority because, despite advances in treatment, prognosis still largely depends on the stage of disease at presentation.
