Cristi Radford and Anya Prince provide specific information about the 2008 Genetic Info Information Nondiscrimination Act so oncology nurses can help their patients navigate the concerns about their medical records and health insurance coverage. In the Patient’s Voice article, MMA tells us about how she feels when a doctor asks her if she’s “crazy yet,” giving us all insight into how our actions as healthcare providers are perceived by patients. We hope to provide you with more perspectives from MMA as she journeys through her cancer treatment, which at this point includes a stem cell transplant in the near future. March is national colorectal cancer awareness month. To acknowledge this, Noteworthy Numbers focuses on the statistics of this disease, which is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. Our Cancer Center Profile this month is an interview with Taline Khoukaz, an oncology nurse specializing in colorectal cancer at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles. Taline tells us about the changes she’s seen in the field and makes it clear that she likes chocolate! Please note Tara Rich’s article discussing the “crizotinib miracle,” which demonstrates some of the promise that personalized medicine can bring to oncology care.
